The Indonesian Women’s Coalition for Justice and Democracy created an e-mail list to foster communication between women’s rights group in Indonesia and to communicate information about the violence and human rights violations that women face there.
The list, moderated by Nani Buntarian is credited with recruiting 500 participants for the Indonesian’s Women’s Congress in just seven days last December and with empowering and improving communication among Indonesian women’s groups. In addition to practical concerns, the list has also encouraged greater bonding and solidarity among women.
“I dream of greater IT (information technology) empowerment in the local women’s movement that will give us greater independence in controlling our information access and distribution,” said Buntarian.
