International Conference for Women’s Leadership

The ATHENA Foundation will host an international conference entitled “Leaders in Action: The ATHENA Model” this April 29-May 1 at the West William Penn in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The ATHENA Foundation is an international organization that was founded in 1982 to support and recognize women who have excelled in business and community involvement, and to increase women’s opportunities for leadership roles.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge will serve as honorary chair for the conference, which will feature a keynote address by Gloria Steinem and the annual “National ATHENA Award Gala,” scheduled for Thursday evening. Former Canadian Prime Minister Kim Campbell will introduce this year’s award recipient, Laura A. Liswood. Liswood founded the Council of Women World Leaders, published a book based on interviews with 15 women prime ministers and presidents, and helped launch a program to help women vie for the presidential nomination. Previous National ATHENA award recipients include U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Brigadier General Sherian Grace Cadoria.
