Husniya Jabara is the first Arab woman to be elected to Israel’s Parliament. A native of Taibe, Jabara will represent the leftist Meretz Party, which now holds 10 seats in the Israeli Parliament.
In other news, a group of ultra-Orthodox Jews attacked a group of Reform Jews who were participating in a mixed-sex prayer service. The Orthodox Jews allegedly became angry when they saw women and men praying together and starting throwing plastic water bottles at them in an attempt to disrupt the service.
The incident occurred about 100 feet from Israel’s Western Wall, which is a remnant from the a Jewish temple that was destroyed by the Romans in 70 A.D. One woman who had been struck in the head was hurt. Four people were arrested by police.
