Judge Affirms Election of Washington State Democratic Governor

Washington state Superior Court judge John Bridges ruled against the state Republican Party, upholding Governor Christine Gregoire’s (D) win in November of 2004. Gregoire won the election by a margin of 129 votes, substantiated by a final hand count. The Republication candidate, Dino Rossi, challenged the results of the election in January, claiming that a large number of felon votes were illegally counted, among other unsupported arguments Bridges dismissed in his ruling.

Bridges concluded that the Republicans offered no evidence of election fraud or any other form of misconduct, according to The Seattle Times. Not only did Bridges reject almost all of the Republicans’ claims but he found evidence of four votes that should have gone to Gregoire, raising her victory margin to 133.
