Judge Grants Anti-Abortion Group Right to March in Wichita

Yesterday a judge overruled the city of Wichita by granting anti-abortion extremist group Operation Save America (formerly Operation Rescue) the right to parade for one hour twice daily during their demonstrations this week outside of Dr. George Tiller’s reproductive health clinic. In 1991, when the group first appeared in Wichita, their violent agitation resulted in 2,700 arrests over the course of 45 days of protest which forced the clinic to temporarily shut down. City officials originally denied Operation Save America’s parade permit request for safety reasons.

For the past four weeks the Feminist Majority Foundation has spearheaded efforts to ensure the safety of Dr. Tiller’s clinic by training local volunteers and providing organizing and logistical experience. Through the work of the Feminist Majority Foundation, local pro-choice activists, and hundreds of volunteers, the clinic has remained open.
