Judge Orders Removal of Medical Record from Anti-Abortion Website

An Illinois judge ordered anti-abortion activists to remove a woman’s medical record and photo from the internet Wednesday, ruling that the men had violated her “medical privacy” by posting her medical and personal information on the internet without her consent. The woman’s medical record, photo, and other identifying factors, such as hometown and family descriptions, were posted to the site by the activists, after she underwent an abortion and suffered complications during the procedure. Her picture was taken by one of the defendants outside the clinic, as she was transported to the hospital. The defendant said that her medical record was sent to him by an anonymous source at a later date. He then decided to publicize her medical information since the local media outlets had refused to do so.
