Yesterday US Representative Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) lost in his primary to Representative Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), the longest serving woman representative in the US House. Kaptur defeat Kucinich by 60 to 36 percent, signifying the first time in 16 years that Kucinich will not hold a seat in Congress. The two Democratic incumbents were redistricted into the same seat. Kaptur will now run against right-wing Republican Samuel Wurzelbacher of “Joe the Plumber” in November.
Far right, militantly anti-abortion Representative Jean Schmidt (R-OH) was upset in her Cincinnati-area district by Brad Wenstrup, an even more rightwing podiatrist who has never held an elected position.
Former Representative Mary Jo Kilroy (D), who lost her seat in 2010, was defeated in the Columbus-area district by former Representative Joyce Beatty (D).
