Law Outlawing Homosexuality Passed in Zanzibar

Zanzibar’s parliament recently passed a bill outlawing homosexuality. According to BBC News, people in lesbian and gay relationships can now face penalties of up to 25 years in prison. Zanzibar’s president is expected to sign the bill into law. Zanzibar is located in East Africa and has a predominantly Muslim society. Islamic groups have called to impose more puritanical laws in Zanzibar, reports the San Diego Union-Tribune.
