Long Time Anti-Abortion Militant and Operation Rescue Founder Arrested at DNC

Randall Terry, the founder of the militant anti-abortion group Operation Rescue, was arrested at the Democratic National Convention after leading a sit-in that would have blocked a convention center entrance. Nearly 60 participated in the sit-in and 13 were arrested after police warned the protesters to disperse three times, according to the Associated Press.

Terry is also responsible for authoring and distributing racist fliers at the convention that condemn Christian voters who support pro-choice candidates.

Anti-abortion protesters have staked out a number of events at the convention, including a luncheon sponsored by Emily’s List and the Women’s EqualiTEA, which was co-sponsored by the Feminist Majority, National Organization for Women, the National Association of Social Workers, the Dolores Huerta Foundation, and the National Congress of Black Women.

Despite the presence of hundreds of protesters, Denver’s clinics have remained open and safe so far during the convention. This past weekend, over 150 anti-abortion protesters gathered outside a local Planned Parenthood clinic in an effort to harass clinic staff and patients. Law enforcement and pro-choice volunteer presence was heavy and the clinic was kept safe and open.
