Louisiana Governor Signs Abortion Ban into Law

Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco (D) signed an extreme ban on abortion into law this weekend. The ban prohibits abortion in all cases, with exceptions only to save the life of the pregnant woman or prevent serious physical harm. There are no exceptions for cases of incest or rape.

Under the new law, doctors could face fines of up to $100,000 and incarceration up to 10 years if found guilty of performing illegal abortions. The ban is a trigger law, meaning it will only go into effect if Roe v. Wade is overturned.

DONATE to protect the right to a safe, legal abortion.
