More Than Thirty Killed, 50 Wounded in Taliban Attack

Bombed dropped by Taliban jets Saturday killed at least 30 people and injured at least 50 others in Taloqan, a city located about 150 miles north of Afghanistan’s capital city, Kabul.

The deadliest of the four bombs was dropped into a crowded marketplace. The Taliban reportedly was attempting to bomb nearby military installations held by the northern opposition.

The Taliban militia group controls about 85 percent of Afghanistan. Taliban officials have passed decrees requiring women to wear a debilitating head-to-toe covering called a burqa whenever they are in public. They have also prohibited women from leaving their homes unless accompanied by a brother, husband or son, and prohibited girls from attending school or receiving adequate health care.
