Ms. Magazine Sold to New Publisher

After 2 1/2 years of ownership, MacDonald Communications Corp. has sold Ms. magazine to Liberty Media for Women.

The new owners, made up of over a dozen female investors, plan to reformulate the magazine so as to increase its appeal to younger women.

“We will be reaching out to younger women, and we hope to be funnier, livelier, surprising. We want to make it very clear that Ms., like feminism, is something that is moving into the future,” said Marcia Ann Gillespie, the editor in chief of Ms. since 1993, and a new owner of the magazine.

Publication of Ms. was suspended by MacDonald Communications after the magazine’s September/October issue was released. The next publication of Ms. is planned for April 1999.
