Ms Woman of the Year to Run for Congress

Coleen Rowley, a 2002 Ms Magazine Woman of the Year, plans to run for Congress in 2006. Rowley will run as a Democrat in the 2nd Congressional District of Minnesota in a bid to upset current Representative John Kline (R-MN). In an interview with the Associated Press, Rowley said she is “concerned about the direction of the country. We have done things that have made us less safe.” She criticized Kline for aligning himself too closely with Bush administration policies, at the expense of the district’s interests, reports the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Rowley received her Ms. magazine honor, as well as the honor of being named a Time magazine Person of the Year after she criticized the FBI’s handling of intelligence before September 11.
