N.H. to Repeal Ban on Gay Adoption

The New Hampshire Legislature voted by a 18-6 margin to repeal a 1987 law that prohibited lesbian and gay citizens from adopting children or acting as foster parents.

The law also required heterosexual couples to sign a document stating that their households did not include gay inhabitants. Gov. Jeanne Shaheen has said she will support the repeal.

After the repeal becomes final, Florida will be the only state than bans adoption by lesbian and gay citizens. State agency rules prevent gays and lesbians from adopting in other states, including Arkansas and Utah.
