NARAL Announces New Leader

Nancy Keenan, a former Montana state officeholder, has assumed her new role of President of NARAL Pro-Choice America. Keenan succeeds Kate Michelman, who stepped down after more than 18 years as President shortly after the March for Women’s Lives. “The stakes have never been higher,” said Keenan. “Years of progress on women’s health, reproductive freedom, and personal privacy are in peril.” Keenan was a three-term Montana State Superintendent of Public Instruction and a state representative for six years. Most recently, she served as education policy director for People for the American Way (PFAW). “At a time when many of the fundamental rights of American women are at risk, NARAL has found the perfect champion in Nancy Keenan,” said Ralph Neas, president of PFAW. “From her days in the Montana State Legislature to her tenure as that state’s superintendent of schools, Nancy Keenan has spent a lifetime advocating on behalf of women and children,” said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). “She will make an outstanding president of NARAL Pro-Choice America.”
