New HPV Vaccine In Clinical Trials

Clinical trials began in Australia and New Zealand on Monday for a new HPV vaccination that researchers believe will protect against 90% of the HPV strains that are linked to cervical cancer, as well as most cases of genital warts. Approximately 15 strains of HPV, the human papillomavirus, are linked to many kinds of cervical cancer.

Other HPV vaccines, Gardasil, which was approved for use in the US in 2006, and Cervarix, which is currently under consideration by the FDA, both protect against about 70% of the HPV strains that are linked to cervical cancer, according to the Australian Associated Press.

Dr Peter Richmond, head of the Vaccine Trials Group from the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research, said that “while (the new vaccine) wouldn’t remove the need for regular pap smears, it certainly has the potential to further reduce the risk of cervical cancer, other genital cancers and distressing diseases, even more so than the currently available vaccines.” funny pictures funny images funny photos funny animal pictures funny dog pictures funny cat pictures funny gifs
