Nike Announces Plan to Improve Conditions for Asian Workers

In response to protests made by women’s rights, human rights, and labor organizations, Nike has announced a plan to improve working conditions in its Asian factories.

Nike will raise the minimum age of its footwear workers from 14 to 18 and will raise the age of other factory workers from 14 to 16. U.S. indoor air quality laws will be enforced in its footwear factories. Company officials have also pledged to expand programs that monitor working conditions and publicize the results of these checks.

Finally, Nike will increase support of its current micro-enterprise loan program, which gives 1,000 families in Vietnam, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Thailand the opportunity to start small businesses.
