Investigators believe they may have uncovered evidence in the woods surrounding the Amherst home of murdered abortion provider Dr. Barnett Slepian.
The evidence, discovered over the weekend on and near a tree, is believed to include human hair and is undergoing analysis for DNA. If DNA is found, the evidence will be checked against samples of hair taken from James Kopp’s home in St. Albans, Vt., said investigators.
The FBI has named Kopp a material witness to the murder of Dr. Barnett Slepian, who was killed by a sniper in his home on October 23. Kopp has evaded arrest so far.
“We’re not sure yet if the stuff that was found was left behind by the killer or somebody passing through the woods,” an investigator said. “And this kind of evidence is worthless if you don’t have something to match it up with.”
