Racism Suspected in the Univ. of AL Greek System

The historically segregationist Greek system at the University of Alabama remains that way this morning. Melody Twilley, a junior, was not accepted into any of the 15 sororities at the University of Alabama. Despite her 3.87 GPA and first soprano chair in the campus choir, Twilley was not extended a bid. Many speculate that a group of elite members of the Greek system called “The Machine” leaked information that any group who accepted a black member would not be invited to parties. To date, according to the Los Angeles Times, only one biracial woman has been accepted by a University of Alabama sorority.
