Redbook Refuses NAF “Early Option” Pill Ad

As the National Abortion Federation (NAF) prepares to launch it’s $2 million campaign to educate the public about the availability of the FDA approved “early option” abortion pill (mifepristone/RU-486), Redbook has refused to run their ad. Redbook spokesperson Paul Luthringer stated, “While Redbook prides itself on an open dialogue about sex, we must also walk a tightrope to satisfy regional mores that if engaged would negatively effect [sic] our business model.”

A number of other women’s magazines, including People, Vanity Fair, InStyle, Jane, Mademoiselle, Glamour, Fitness, Health, Self, First for Women, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, and Essence do plan to run the ad. The advertisement shows a women looking out a window and includes the text: “You have the freedom to choose. And now, you have another safe abortion choice.”
