Reno Addresses Women Justice Chiefs

U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno delivered the keynote address Tuesday to the inaugural meeting of international female justice ministers. Attending conference were female justices from Gambia, Hungary, Sweden, Azerbaijan, Eritrea, Canada, Costa Rica and Iceland, the deputy justice minister from Ukraine and the former justice ministers from Bolivia, Latvia and Ivory Coast. Reno implored the group to “join arms together” to fight for democracy across the globe.

“The key around the world to reducing violence and to bringing peace is to make sure that as we leave our jobs, and as others take our place, that we do everything in our power to end violence against women, violence in the home and violence against families,” said Reno.

Reno was the first woman appointed as United States Attorney General.
