Rep. Jo Ann Davis, R-VA, Dies of Breast Cancer

Rep Jo Ann David, R-VA, died Saturday morning of breast cancer at 57. Her office said she had been diagnosed with the disease in 2005 and resumed treatments earlier this year following a re-occurrence.

The four-term Congresswoman made history as the first Republican woman from the Commonwealth of Virginia to be elected to Congress. She served on the House Armed Services Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Virginia Governor Timothy M. Kaine said in a statement that: “She inspired Virginians as she battled breast cancer, while continuing to serve the Commonwealth… Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends today.”
