Report Shows Men More Violent Than Women

A report by the Bureau of Justice Statistics said on Sunday that men commit around 13 million violent crimes each year, more than six times the number of crimes committed by women (2.1 million).

The National Crime Victimization Survey, released Sunday, reported these figures based on statistical averages gathered between the years of 1993-1997 from about 100,000 people.

The survey found that the number of violent criminals committed has declined by women and men since its peak rate in 1994. The murder rate for 1998 showed one female murderer for every 77,000 compared to one male murderer for every 8,700 males.
