A report released by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Alan Guttmacher Institute (AGI) stresses the importance for donor countries to invest in sexual and reproductive health services in developing countries. The report states that these types of investments will yield great health, economic, and social benefits for societies in developing countries.
According to the report, giving women and girls the resources to delay childbearing or to space the births of their children will increase their chances of achieving higher levels of education. In addition, Sharon Camp, President of AGI, said, “Poor sexual reproductive health is responsible for almost one-fifth of deaths and diseases worldwide and one-third among women,” reports UN Wire.
The report also looks at gaps in the donor communities’ investments in international reproductive health. According to the report, the United States is providing less than half of what it had committed.
