Right-Wing Praises Bush

Conservative leaders are praising President George W. Bush, showing an enthusiasm they have not shown since the first term of Ronald Reagan’s presidency. Groups like the Family Research Council trust Bush to support ultra-conservative policies, asserting that, while they appreciate Bush’s “cooperative style,” it is his position on policy that gives conservative groups hope. Bush’s first move as President was to reinstate the global gag rule, which refuses US funding to family planning programs outside the U.S. that use separate, private monies to counsel abortion. The Washington Post reports that, in addition to abortion, conservative groups have their eyes on welfare, preparing to attack the welfare system within Bush’s first term.
