Soroptimist International Honors Mavis Leno with ‘Women Helping Women Award’

Soroptimist International of the Americas honored Mavis Leno and the Feminist Majority Foundation today with its ‘Women Helping Women Award’ in commendation of the five-year Campaign to Stop Gender Apartheid in Afghanistan which brought the Taliban’s atrocities against women and girls to the attention of the world. An awards ceremony was held today in San Diego at the Soroptimist’s annual ‘Making a Difference for Women’ luncheon.

Soroptimist International is a women’s organization that works to make positive differences in the lives of women through volunteer service to communities. The organization was founded in 1921, and has more than 100,000 professional women members in 120 countries.
