A spokesperson for Cristine Sanchez, Spain’s best-known woman matador, has announced that Sanchez will retire from her successful career at the age of 27 in protest of her male colleagues’ discriminatory, macho attitudes.
Although Sanchez has won obvious recognition from her fans, who often carried her on their shoulders after a bullfighting match, she has been deeply offended and hurt by sexist and discriminatory actions taken by her male colleagues. Sanchez’s spokeperson noted that many of Spain’s male bullfighters have refused to perform in the same shows as Sanchez.
Sanchez is slated to more-fully disclose the reasons for her retirement in a public statement later this week.
