Taliban, U.S. Company Sign $240 Million Contract

U.S. -based Telephone System International has entered into a $240 million contract with the fundamentalist, repressive Taliban regime to build a communication network throughout Afghanistan.

TSI Deputy Director Gary Brishinsky said that the network will be in service in approximately two years and will carry both “standard” and “advanced” communications.

The Taliban has exacted its own harsh interpretation of Islam on the Afghan people. Women, especially, have suffered under the regime. They are forbidden from attending school, working to support themselves, and leaving their homes without a close male relative to escort them. Most are denied adequate medical care as well.
