Two Arrested in Albuquerque Clinic Arson

Two men were arrested last week in connection to the fire that destroyed an Albuquerque clinic in early December. Federal agents and arson investigators arrested Sergio T. Baca and Chad D. Altman on federal charges of arson, and the two could face additional charges for violating the federal Freedom to Access Clinic Entrances act, according to the Albuquerque Tribune.

A criminal complaint says that, according Baca’s roommate, Baca allegedly confessed to starting the December 6th fire because his ex-girlfriend was scheduled to have an abortion at the clinic, reports the Associated Press.

The December 6th fire was the beginning of a rash of attacks on clinics in the Albuquerque area. Last week, another fire damaged a surgery center used by Planned Parenthood, and a family planning clinic’s windows were smashed in. According to the New York Times, neither building sustained permanent damage and both returned to normal activity that week.
