Two men entered guilty pleas Wednesday after firebombing the office of Dr. Curtis Boyd, an Albuquerque abortion provider. The men broke one of the clinic’s windows, poured gasoline into the building, and ignited a fire before fleeing, according to the Albuquerque Journal.
The arson occurred after one of the men learned that his ex-girlfriend had planned to terminate her pregnancy at Boyd’s clinic, reported KOAT. This is the first attack on an Albuquerque abortion provider’s building in almost 10 years, according to the New York Times. However, two weeks after the arson at Dr. Boyd’s office, two Planned Parenthood buildings were vandalized.
Boyd, who cofounded the National Abortion Federation in 2007, told the New York Times that “After working on the abortion reform movement for 40 years, I wake up and I still can’t believe we’re still where we are. When will it stop?”
