UNIFEM Multimedia Event Targets Violence Against Women

The United Nations Development Fund for Women, together with other UN agencies, will sponsor “A World Free of Violence Against Women,” a global multimedia event that will take place from 9:30am to 11am EST on March 8, 1999.

Using live, two-way video, the event will bring together international human rights activists, UN leaders, government representatives, academics, and member of the press to discuss strategies for eliminating violence against women.

Women can join in the event either through a H.320 compatible videoconferencing facility or via the World Wide Web. Conference organizers also hope to offer a satellite broadcast of the event. Women who would like to participate in the event are encouraged to sign up for the End-Violence Working Group listserv by sending an e-mail message to majordomo@edc-cit.org with the words subscribe end-violence in the body of the message. Information on how to participate in the March event will be posted on the listserv.

If you aren’t able to join the listserv but would like participate in the event using videoconferencing, contact global videoconferencing company Stratosphere at fehr@stratosphere-nyc.com. Please state your name, your organization, your contact information, the location of your videoconferencing facility, and your desire to participate in the “World Free of Violence Against Women” event via videoconferencing.
