United Nations: Hunger, Malnutrition Kills 6 Million Children Every Year

A new United Nations report reveals that more than six million children die every year from hunger or malnutrition. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization report, “The State of Food Insecurity in the World,” many of these six million children die from treatable diseases such as pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria, and measles.

One-third of the population of sub-Saharan Africa is suffering from undernourishment, up from 170.4 million in 1990-1992. The report also found that increases in women’s education was the single largest factor contributing to declines in malnutrition between 1970 and 1995.
