US Asks France to Extradite Anti-Abortion Extremist

The United States has submitted a request to France’s Justice Ministry for the extradition of James Charles Kopp, the anti-abortion extremist charged with the 1998 assassination of obstetrician and abortion provider Barnett A. Slepian. Kopp faces state and federal charges of murder as well as penalties for violating the federal Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act for using deadly force against a reproductive health care provider. A court in northwestern France now has three months to decide whether Kopp will be extradited.
