US Wins Gold Medal in Soccer at Goodwill Games

The United States won 2-0 over China in the Goodwill women’s soccer game to capture the gold medal last Monday.

Mia Hamm led the team to victory with two goals. “Both goals she scored were just awesome,” said US Coach Tony DiCicco. Chinese Goalkeeper Zhao Yan agreed, saying, “I thought before the game she was the best player in the world and I still feel that way. She’s an exceptional player.”

The game drew a crowd of 11,307 at the Mitchell Athletic Complex, the largest crowd to attend any event at the Goodwill Games.
