Eighteen-year-old Leah Carr lost her valedictorian title as well as her right to attend graduation ceremonies because she is six months pregnant.
Carr is a student at Dove Christian Academy, where she held a perfect 4.0 grade point average. The private school is run by the Radcliff First Assembly of God church in Radcliff, Kentucky. School officials have declined to comment prior to seeking legal advice.
Several of Carr’s supporters contended that the school’s punishment was overly harsh, pointing out that Leah had told school officials the truth and didn’t attempt to hide her pregnancy. Others disagreed, arguing that other religious schools have expelled students for the same reason.
