VT Governor Nominates Beth Robinson to state Supreme Court

Yesterday Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin nominated his general counsel Beth Robinson to the state Supreme Court. He stated, “Beth’s strong legal background, experience with crafting legislation at the Statehouse and commitment to the equal rights of all Vermonters will make her an exceptional justice on the Vermont Supreme Court.” Robinson’s confirmation is likely by Vermont’s Democrat-controlled Senate.”

Joe Solmonese, President of the Human Rights Campaign, stated, “Beth has been a pioneer for justice and equality  under the law and the people of Vermont will be well served with her insightful legal mind on the state’s highest court. She has shown through her decades of legal work a commitment to the law and to all Vermonters.”

In 1999, Beth Robinson served as co-counsel, representing three same sex couples, in a case that granted same-sex couples the right to enter into civil union rights in Vermont. Robinson also served as the head of Vermont Freedom to marry and was a vocal supporter of same-sex marriage rights in the state.
