Women’s Health Care Services in Wichita, Kansas, one of the few women’s health clinics in the US that provides later-term abortions, was attacked in the middle of the night on July 4. Unidentified vandals cut a hole in the roof of the clinic, inserted a garden hose, and flooded a room in the clinic with several inches of water. The vandals also tried to seal the gates to the parking lot shut, but fire trucks arriving at the scene were able to open the gates before the epoxy dried, according to KAKE News 10 in Wichita.
Dr. George Tiller, the owner of the Wichita clinic, has been targeted repeatedly for his work as one of the only providers of late-term abortion to women with severely troubled pregnancies. The Feminist Majority Foundation’s National Clinic Access Project has worked closely with Dr. Tiller’s clinic over the years to counter violent attacks and threats by anti-abortion extremists. Dr. Tiller himself has courageously withstood repeated attacks by anti-abortion extremists, including an attempted assassination in 1994 by an Army of God adherent in which he was shot five times.
