Women Only Political Party Formed In India

The first all-women political party, the United Women Front, has formed in India. This party was founded by renowned social activist Suman Krishan Kant, whose husband is the country”s former Vice President, Women’s eNews reports.

The group’s first priority is to increase female representation in the country”s parliament from 8% to 50%, despite the resistance women”s groups have met to their demand that 33% of parliamentary seats be reserved for women, according to the Christian Science Monitor. “We believe in equality. Women are not beggars,” Kant said. “I don”t believe in asking for 33% when women make up half the population.”
