Women Win Pulitzer Prize

Head of the Washington Post Co. Katherine Graham and playwright Paulo Vogel each won a Pulitzer Prize. Graham received the Prize for her book Personal History. The book chronicled her life and the challenges she faces after her husband’s 1963 suicide, when she took over the Post. A New York Times Book Review article by Nora Ephron said, “She turns out to have had not two lives but four, and the story of her journey from daughter to wife to widow to woman parallels to a surprising degree the history of women in this century.”

Vogel’s play, “How I Learned to Drive,” is set in a Maryland suburb and tells the story of a woman recovering from a childhood in which her uncle molested her.
